About Our Business

Barbara Proctor, President & Chair of the Board

President's Message

November 2022

The past five years have passed quickly since I began my role as President and Chair of The Board of The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association. Over these years our volunteer base has evolved, some staffers have changed, governments have changed.  The pace at which this agency supports our seniors, has not changed. Our core services of Meals on Wheels, Foot Care, Transportation, Reassurance visits and phone calls and Grocery Delivery are here to stay, constantly adapting to the needs of our County senior residents.

The Ministry of Health continues its recognition of the value of the Community Support Services sector and the strength of senior support services. Our agency is partially funded in agreement with the Ministry of Health that we meet the requirements of Community Support Services sector agencies. Our core services were enhanced in 2018 with the assistance of the Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility Active Living Programs. We now provide senior programs such as exercise, entertainment, educational and social opportunities with emphasis on the prevention of senior social isolation. Financial and in-kind support of our Municipal government qualifies us to obtain these enhancement funds and brands our County as an “Age Friendly Community”.

The quality of service provided becomes a labour of love and support. The level of skill and leadership of our Community Care Team and the dedication of our volunteers brings us to our successes. Our Board of Directors and our Executive Director work in tandem to bring about the necessary supports for seniors so that they/we may age independently in our own homes.

The Pandemic of 2021 not only endangered the well being of vulnerable senior residents, it also stunted our ability to fundraise. Community Care services and programs for seniors are reliant on the fundraising component of our organization. Our Community Leaders and Philanthropic Organizations have stood by our fundraising efforts and we are so grateful for your loyalty. In this, our 45th year of existence in Prince Edward County, Community Care continues to support seniors to live at home.
