At the Annual General Meeting held on June 26th, chair of the board of Prince Edward Community Care, Ralph Hall addressed those present, saying "we have had a challenging year and we have continued to meet our goal to assist older people to live in a home environment in reasonable independence."
Treasurer John A. Jackson reported that the Thrift Shop is once again a significant contributor to the favourable financial situation. He pointed out the additional annualized and one-time funding received from the Ontario Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care. Community Care ended the year in the black. Auditor Sandy Murray congratulated the board and staff for the excellent financial management of the agency.
Executive Director Debbie Moynes outlined the year's successes and challenges in her report. She stated that Community Care's purpose is clear. "We support clients in their independence. We do not encourage them, by words or actions, to become dependent upon our staff. We are enablers, connecting people to the services that they need to be able to live at home. We are bound by the requirements of the Long-Term Care Act and confidentiality is of the utmost importance." She thanked the staff and volunteers for their outstanding dedication. Moynes continued by extending her thanks to the 2002-2003 board of directors for their support.
The following were elected to the board of directors for 2003-2004: Doreen Brown, Margaret Ferguson, Maureen Finnegan, Ralph Hall, John Jackson, Howard Johnston, Betty Lee, Genny Vincent, Stan Whitehouse. Following the annual meeting the board elected Ralph Hall to serve a second year as chair.
