The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association has spent nearly fifty years helping older adults live well at home, stay active and feel connected to their community.

Today, we are asking for support to complete a transformational project that will benefit County seniors for generations to come: the County Seniors’ Centre at 74 King Street in Picton.

 A Community Need

Prince Edward County has one of the highest proportions of older adults in Ontario. More than one-third of County residents are over the age of 65, and that number continues to grow.

While many older adults remain active and independent, social isolation and loneliness have become significant challenges. Research consistently shows that social isolation affects both physical and mental health and can lead to poorer health outcomes, reduced quality of life and increased reliance on health care services.

For decades, Community Care has responded to these challenges through programs and services that support independence and connection. Through Meals on Wheels, transportation, foot care, homemaking, friendly visiting, telephone reassurance and active living programs, thousands of older adults each year receive support that helps them remain in their own homes and communities.

 A Vision Becomes Reality

For many years, Community Care Board Members, staff and volunteers dreamed of creating a dedicated space where older adults could gather, participate in programs, learn new skills, build friendships and access supports that help them remain independent.

That vision became reality when the Community Care Foundation purchased the building at 74 King Street in Picton.

Today, the County Seniors’ Centre is open and welcoming participants from across Prince Edward County. Every week, older adults come through its doors to participate in social, educational, recreational and wellness activities designed to reduce isolation and strengthen community connections.

These are not just testimonials. They are evidence that that the Centre is already fulfilling its promise.

But the Work is Not Yet Finished

The County Seniors’ Centre exists today because of extraordinary generosity from community members, foundations, businesses and donors who believe in the vision.

Significant progress has been made toward the capital campaign goal of $1.25M. However, $248,575.32 remains to be raised to conclude the campaign and ensure the long-term sustainability of this important community asset.

Completing the capital campaign will help secure the future of the County Seniors’ Centre as a permanent home for programs and services that help older adults live well at home, stay active and remain connected to their community.

The County Seniors’ Centre is a place where friendships are formed, where people find support during difficult times, where newcomers make connections and where older adults discover opportunities to continue contributing to community life.
