Why I volunteer by Carole Thimidis There’s very few organizations that need to raise money, that could function without volunteers. I volunteer with organizations whose role it is to help others. Most of these organizations couldn’t manage without all the good people who give their time so freely. We work hard, are reliable and are essential to raising funds needed to continue to be able to serve our community. Which brings us joy in that we have a purpose. The other side of volunteering is what we, the volunteers get from giving our time freely. We meet others, sometimes like ourselves and sometimes very different. Congratulations to Abigail Young of Picton. Abigail, a PECI graduate, is the recipient of the Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors Foundation Maureen Finnegan Award for outstanding volunteering service to the community. Throughout high school Abigail volunteered with the ROC Youth Centre, Cadets, and assisted with afterschool activities and fundraisers. Abigail plans to continue their education at Ottawa University.

Congratulations to Taylor Thurston of Picton. Taylor, a PECI graduate, is the recipient of the Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors Foundation Award. This award is presented to a deserving student proceeding to study in the field of Social Service Worker or Gerontology. Taylor will continue their education attending the Paramedic Program at Loyalist College in September.
