We have much to be proud of in presenting this annual report which highlights our programs and services and how much we have accomplished. This pride is reinforced by the great feedback we regularly receive from our clients and their families.
I want to especially celebrate the opening of Community Care’s new County Seniors’ Centre in Picton. If you haven’t dropped in please do so. It is a welcoming and inclusive place.
Seniors centres are vital to the health, well-being and quality of life for older adults. Our centre, combined with a host of other services, helps alleviate many challenges as people age including social isolation, reduced mobility and health changes. Our centre is a hospitable and friendly environment where seniors can be active, connect with peers and learn new skills all while having fun. In its short time in existence, the centre has become an important hub in the Prince Edward County community.
While the County Seniors’ Centre is an important step in Community Care’s evolution, it is but one of the many vital Community Support Services that we have been providing to local seniors for 49 years. This annual report gives a nice overview of our various services available to members.
None of what we do would be possible without the amazing contributions from our volunteers, staff, donors and the wonderful people who shop at our Thrift Shop. And speaking of donors, a special thanks to Community Care’s Foundation which had a stellar year raising money in both financial and in kind contributions.
While we are also grateful for the generous support we receive from three levels of government (federal, provincial and municipal) it is never enough to pay for the programs so desperately needed in Prince Edward County. Without all of you who contribute your money and time, much of what we do would not be possible.
Speaking of governments, I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize our elected representatives and their staffs who are always readily available to hear our concerns and often attend our events. Thanks all!
Finally, a special thank you to our community partners in social services, health care, businesses and other organizations. The support that they provide helps us achieve our mission. We cannot operate in isolation and are very much appreciative of their collaboration.
Looking ahead, we will continue to focus on the evolving needs of older adults. We are committed to being the best that we can be. As we near our 50th anniversary as an organization, it is important to reflect upon how far we have come. This year we served 2,997 clients with programs across the county.
We truly believe that without the efforts, passion and energy of our staff and volunteers, many seniors would need more intensive medical intervention and lead much less fulfilling lives.
