Do you have someone on your list who has everything? Someone that you just can't think of what to buy for? This Christmas you can honour them with a donation made in their name to The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association. "This is a terrific idea" comments Debbie Moynes, executive director. "It means that people can give a gift that truly makes a difference in the lives of peopl, because it helps us help seniors to stay living at home."

To participate in this new initiative, people can stop in at the Community Care office in The Armoury in Picton and make a donation in the name of their loved one. Community Care will send a Christmas card to the person named, in acknowledgment of the gift. The donor receives a receipt suitable for income tax purposes. Featured on the home page of Community Care's website, people can also just print the form and mail it in with their cheque. The staff at the office will take it from there. Other suggestions for your shopping list include gift certificates for Community Care's programs. You can purchase gift certificates in any amount for foot care, hot or frozen Meals on Wheels, Seniors' Dinners, bus trips, transportation, etc. If your friend or family member is not already a client of Community Care, but you think that they should be, one of the co-ordinators will be happy to talk to you about purchasing a trial package of Meals on Wheels.

Each year the Community Care volunteers prepare bottles of "Friendship Soup" which make excellent hostess gifts at a mere $6.00 each. Christmas light bottles are available again this year. And there are still a few cookbooks left at the clear out price of $5.00.

Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors has been supporting seniors to live independently at home since 1977. Services include Meals on Wheels, transportation to medical appointments, noon-time dinners for seniors, foot care, help with forms, rural route reassurance and telephone reassurance programs. The agency is partly funded by the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care and supported by donations and community fundraising efforts.
