Working together
Working together to support residents of Prince Edward County always comes first. To that end, the Board of Directors of The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association has appointed Stephanie MacLaren to the Board. President of Community Care, Margaret Werkhoven, said "we are very pleased to welcome Stephanie both to our board and to The County. The primary health care services offered by the Prince Edward Family Health Team are a natural fit with those provided by Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors. We anticipate that her presence on our board will strengthen the connections
between our organizations as we find new ways to work together to support seniors in our community."
MacLaren holds the position of Executive Director of the Prince Edward Family Health Team (PEFHT) and her experience in health services is highly valued by the Community Care Board. At a meeting on October 31, 2013 she was warmly welcomed to her new position with the FHT, to the community of Prince Edward County, and to the Community Care Board. MacLaren says, "It is an
honour to join such a passionate and committed board. The more time I spend working in primary care, the greater my appreciation is for the work and potential of community support services. It is my hope that my work on the board of Community Care will help us to strengthen the relationships between the two agencies and find ways to be creative and innovative in our
partnerships. Ultimately, we are working to the same end - keeping people well, supported in home and community - it is about delivering excellent health and social services to the residents of Prince Edward County."
The PEFHT is one of 200 Family Health Teams across Ontario, which opened as part of an Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care initiative aimed at improving access to primary health care professionals in Ontario. PEFHT has interdisciplinary care teams offering comprehensive patient-centred, primary health care including disease diagnosis, treatment and management, prevention and cure, rehabilitation, palliative care and community health promotion.
The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association offers services such as Meals on Wheels, transportation to medical appointments, noon-time dinners for seniors, foot care, help with forms (including Income Tax), respite, home maintenance, rural route reassurance and telephone reassurance programs. The agency is partly funded by the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care through the Local Health Integration Network and supported by donations and community fundraising efforts, such as Community Care's Thrift Shop at 281 Main Street.
