Advance
Care Planning – June 3rd
Join in a conversation about Advance Care Planning with Joscelyn
Matthewman, a nurse with the Prince Edward Family Health Team. A
maximum of 10 people will meet with Joscelyn in the Activity Room at
Prince Edward Community Care to discuss how you can plan for a day when
you can’t speak for yourself. Participants will receive a 14 page
booklet with information on what to consider as you prepare advanced
directives or a living will. Registration is required for
this free session being held on Wednesday, June 3 from 2-4pm.

55 ALIVE Mature
Driving Classroom Refresher Course- June 11th
A 55-Alive safe driving course will be held on Thursday, June 11th in
Picton sponsored by Prince Edward Community Care, and will run from
9:30 am to 3:30 pm. This is a driver retraining program was
developed by the Canada Safety Council and is designed specifically to
help older drivers improve their driving skills. The cost is
$30.00 per person, which includes workbook, refreshments and a light

The Circle of Care
- June 15th
The Dementia Network of Hastings & Prince Edward is offering a
free, training opportunity for volunteers who work with people with
dementia. “The Circle of Care” is a day-long workshop that is focused
on helping volunteers develop specialized knowledge and training to
work more effectively and comfortably with those who have
Alzheimer Disease and other related dementia. Registration is
required and lunch is included at this free event. For more

Seniors’ Dinner - Wednesday, June 17th
The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association is
holding a Seniors’ Dinner in Demorestville at the Friendship
United Church Hall, on Wednesday, June 17th at 12
noon. Catering is by the Wooden Spoon.
After the dinner there will be a screening of the video “Why Don’t We
Do It In Our Sleeves?” Learn how to cough and sneeze in a way
that won’t infect other people. In a fun way, the video gives
a message to remember. This dinner offers an opportunity to
get out and meet with your friends and neighbours, and have a delicious
hot lunch. The caterer is the Wooden Spoon and the menu this month is
pork chops, mashed potatoes, carrots, coleslaw and jello with whipped
cream for dessert. The cost is $7.50.
Attendance is by reservation only. Call 613-476-7493 to
reserve your place by no later than Monday at 12:00 noon. Bring your own plate, cup and cutlery.
Picton Seniors’
Dinner - Wednesday, June 24th
Prince Edward Community Care is holding a Seniors’ Dinner in Picton at
the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 78, on Wednesday, June 17th
at 12 noon. The caterer is the Wooden Spoon and the menu this
month is pork chops, mashed potatoes, carrots, coleslaw and jello with
whipped cream for dessert. The guest speaker will be John
Poneta from the Friends of Birdhouse City. This
dinner is a great opportunity to get out and meet with your friends and
neighbours and have a delicious hot lunch.
Attendance is by reservation only. The cost is
$7.50. Call 613-476-7493 to reserve your place by
no later than Monday at 12:00 noon. Bring your own plate, cup
and cutlery.
Living well with a
chronic disease - continues until June 19th
A Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop series started May 15th in
Picton. With this 6 week workshop series participants will
learn: techniques to deal with frustration, fatigue, pain and
isolation; exercise; communication; nutrition; medication; problem
solving; decision making; and how to develop a personal action
plan. The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors
Association, in partnership with the Prince Edward Family Health Team
are co-sponsoring this workshop series. It’s too late to join
this series of workshops but you can register your name for the series
that will be held this fall in Wellington. To register or for
more information please call 613-476-7493. The cost is $35.00
which includes a 400 page reference book. A spouse or family member may
also attend for an additional $15.00.
Day - Friday, June
26th
Prince Edward Community Care volunteers will be stationed throughout
Picton, Bloomfield and Wellington to sell tags in support of programs
to help seniors stay living at home. Please give
generously.

closed Canada Day - Wednesday, July 1 st
The Prince Edward Community Care office will be closed Wednesday, June
1st for Canada Day. Meals on Wheels will
be delivered as usual on this day.
