Hearing Help Classes- starting April 7th
Hearing Help Classes are designed to provide information on how hearing loss occurs and the effect on the individual, develop practical communication strategies for difficult listening situations, and support individuals to become comfortable in expressing communication needs.  It will provide information and tips on how to use hearing aids and an opportunity to experiment with technical devices.  It will also facilitate learning more about speech reading.  The Canadian Hearing Society, in partnership with The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association, will offer “level one” hearing help classes which will run on Tuesday mornings, from 9:30 am to 11:30, beginning April 7th and ending  May 12, 2009.  The course will take place at the Community Care office, 206 Main Street, The Armoury, in Picton.  To register, contact Community Care at 613-476-7493.  The cost is $15.00/person for 6 classes and a companion can attend for free.

Wellington Seniors’ Dinner - April 8th 
Seniors are invited to gather for the great food that will be served at 12 noon on Wednesday, April 8th in Wellington.  Jay Cumpsty of the Wooden Spoon will prepare a meal especially suited for seniors and it will be served at the Wellington United Church hall by caring volunteers.  There will be a Wii Bowling demonstration.  So join in the Wii fun,  line up the pins and take a swing!  You just need to call 613-476-7493 by noon on Tuesday, March 10th and let Prince Edward Community Care know that you’re planning to attend. If you’d rather pick up the meal and eat it at home, that’s ok, too. When you call, advise the person on the phone that you will be doing this. There is an elevator at the church so if you’re not able to use stairs, that’s fine, you can go for a short elevator ride instead! Need a ride, let Community Care know, and for a small fee they will send a volunteer driver to pick you up and take you home. The cost is only $7.50/meal. Please bring your own dishes.    

Office closed for Easter- Friday, April 10th and Monday, April 13th   
The Prince Edward Community Care office will be closed on Friday, April 10th and Monday, April 13th  for Good Friday and Easter Monday.   Meals on Wheels will be delivered as usual on these days.
 
Picton Seniors’ Dinner - Wednesday, April 15th
Prince Edward Community Care is holding a Seniors’ Dinner in Picton at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 78, on Wednesday, April 15th  at 12 noon.  The meal is catered by The Wooden Spoon. There will be a Wii Bowling demonstration.  So join in the Wii fun,  line up the pins and take a swing!  This dinner is a great opportunity to get out and meet with your friends and neighbours and have a  delicious hot lunch.  Attendance is by reservation only.  The cost is $7.50.   Call 613-476-7493 to reserve your place by no later than Monday at 12:00 noon.  Bring your own plate, cup and cutlery.  

Caregiver Support Group- continues in April
The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association has started a new session of the Caregiver Support Group, and welcomes anyone who has taken on the role of caring for an older person.  A wide array of resource materials will be available for loan.  The group will meet on Tuesdays for 6 weeks, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm, which began March 24th, no cost, in the Community Care office, The Armoury, 206 Main Street, Picton.  Topics include; “caring for yourself, while caring for someone else”, “changing relationships”, “impact on the caregivers life”, “the many sides of grief, loss and mourning” and more, depending upon the interests and needs of the group participants.  Please register in advance by calling 613-476-7493. 

Sophiasburgh Seniors’ Dinner - Wednesday, April 22nd
The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association is holding a Seniors’ Dinner in Demorestville at the  Friendship United Church Hall, on Wednesday, April 22nd  at 12 noon.  There will be a Wii Bowling demonstration.  So join in the Wii fun,  line up the pins and take a swing!  This dinner is a great opportunity to get out and meet with your friends and neighbours and have a  delicious hot lunch.  The cost is $7.50.  Attendance is by reservation only.  Call 613-476-7493 to reserve your place by no later than Monday at 12:00 noon.  Bring your own plate, cup and cutlery.
           
Milford Seniors’ Dinner - April 29th 
Prince Edward Community Care is holding a Seniors’ Dinner Milford at the Milford Town Hall, on Wednesday, April 29th  at 12 noon.  The guest speaker will be Maureen Finnegan of the Women’s Institute.   This dinner is a great opportunity to get out and meet with your friends and neighbours and have a nutritious hot meal. Attendance is by reservation only.  The cost is $7.50.   Call 613-476-7493 to reserve your place by no later than Monday  at 12:00 noon.  Bring your own plate, cup and cutlery. 

55 ALIVE Mature Driving Classroom Refresher Course- April 30th
A 55-Alive safe driving course will be held in Thursday, April 30th in Picton sponsored by Prince Edward Community Care, and will run from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.  This is a driver retraining program developed by the Canada Safety Council and designed specifically to help older drivers improve their driving skills.  The cost is $30.00 per person, which includes workbook, refreshments and a light lunch.  Call 613-476-7493 for more information.

Income Tax Preparation- continues in April
Prince Edward Community Care is completing Income Tax returns for people in Prince Edward County, who have low income (under $25,000 single, under $35,000 married or common law) and a simple tax situation.  Trained volunteers complete the  Income Tax returns. There is no charge, but donations are gratefully accepted.  Home visits can be arranged for those who are shut-in.  Drop by the office in The Armoury, Suite 3A, 206 Main St., Picton or call 613-476-7493  to check if you meet Canada Revenue Agency’s eligibility criteria.
